1918

Started in 1918, Ritz & Wolf Camera & Image is America’s Premier retail destination for cameras and imaging. Ritz & Wolf is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and operates more than 300 stores in 36 states from coast to coast. The company has dedicated its legacy to empowering consumers to share, display and save all of life’s treasured memories.

1936

Benjamin Ritz and his brother Edward Ritz traveled to D.C. to open the first Ritz film-processing lab where a customer could get quality black and white film developed, printed and delivered overnight for 25 cents a roll.

1978

David Ritz, son of Edward Ritz, takes over Ritz Camera Centers and grows the company to nearly 100 stores by the mid 1980’s.

1996

Ritz Camera Centers purchases Inkely’s Camera of Salt Lake City, UT

1997

Ritz Camera Centers acquired the 140-store chain, Kits Camera, Inc. of Seattle, WA strengthening the company’s presence on the West Coast.

1998

Ritz Camera Centers acquires 83 retail photographic stores from Fuji.

1999

Ritz Camera Centers purchases The Camera Shop, Inc., the third largest photofinishing chain with 72 stores and 500 employees.


2001

Ritz Camera acquires Wolf Camera, the second largest camera store chain in the U.S.

2006

Ritz Camera Centers created RitzPix.com, an online imaging store offering Digital Prints, Photo Books, Photo Greeting Cards, Photo Calendars, Enlargements, CDs, DVDs, Photo Gifts and more. The site offers online ordering and pickup at our retail locations.

2009

Ritz Camera & Image purchases the assets of Ritz Camera Centers and expands product base to include all electronics that allow customers to share, display and save their memories including LCD TVs, Blu-ray players, Verizon Wireless Cell coverage and much more.
